Unusual Operating Noise
........\\\///........
NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN OVERALL NOISE LEVEL AT
FITTINGS, PIPES, VALVES AND PUMP OR MOTOR
(USUALLY ACCOMPANIED BY SPONGY OR JUMPING OPERATION OF ACTUATORS IN THE SYSTEM)

  Possible Causes   Remedy
1) Air leak on suction of pump. 1) Locate and repair air leak.
2) Restriction on suction of pump causing cavitation. 2) Locate and repair source of restriction.

a) Collapsed suction hose.
b) Dirty suction strainer.
c) Plugged suction.
3) Foaming oil in reservoir. 3) See below:

a) Correct fluid level in the reservoir
b) Check the return line to ensure it terminates below the fluid level.
c) Check flow velocity in return lines.
d) Analyze the hydraulic fluid for proper and foam additive.

........\\\///........
PUMP MOTOR OR VALVES MAKE LOUD RATTLING OR CLANKING
NOISE UNDER LOAD AT START UP. NOISE SHORTLY GOES AWAY.
  Possible Causes   Remedy
1. Hydraulic fluid is too viscous when cold. 1. See below :

a. Install a pre-heater to warm up the system prior to operation

PUMP, MOTOR OR VALVES START MAKING LOUD RATTLING
OR CLANKING NOISES FOR NO APPARENT REASON
(Normally accompanied by erratic actuator operation)
  Possible Causes   Possible Causes
1) Possible Causes 1) Locate restriction (dirty suction strainer/filter, plugged line, collapsed suction hose) and correct it.
2) Air leak on suction of pump 2) See below :

a. Check the fluid level in reservoir and refill as necessary.
b. Locate and repair air leak on suction side of pump.
