Improper Cylinder Operation
........\\\///........
CYLINDER DRIFTS
  Possible Causes   Remedy
1) Piston seal(s) leak. 1) Disassemble and replace seals.
2) Directional control valve leaks. 2) Refer to "Improper Directional Control Valve Operation" troubleshooting section.
3) Single-acting cylinder has a sufficiently high return line backpressure. 3) See below:

a) Restricted return line.
b) Dirty return line filter.

a) Remove restriction.
b) Remove and replace return line filter.
4) Common occurrence with closed center directional valve in neutral or center position and pump under load. 4)

See below:

a) Charge to tandem spool-type valve.
b) Unload the pump.
c) Change to valve with special notch design at valve spool that prevent the pressure buildup.

CYLINDER DOES NOT MOVE THE LOADWHEN DIRECTIONAL VALVE IS ACTUATED
  Possible Causes   Remedy
1) Binding of linkage arrangement. 1) Check linkage for proper alignment.
2) Piston rod bent or broken. 2) Disassemble and replace rod. Check for proper mounting alignment.
3) Piston seal(s) leak. 3) Disassemble and replace seals.
4) Pressure too low. 4) Check and adjust system pressure.
5) Cylinder too small 5) Recalculate cylinder size and load requirements. Install correct size cylinder.
